About Dr.Savithri
Prof. Savithri completed her undergraduate [B.Sc (Speech & Hearing)], post graduate [M.Sc (Speech and Hearing)], and Ph.D (Speech and Hearing) degree from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Manasagangothri, Mysore. She was also awarded the Vidwat degree in Naveena Nyaya (Sanskrit) by the Karnataka Board in 1978.
She has over 25 years of experience in teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students. She is a Professor in Speech Sciences and the Director currently. Her special areas of interest include speech production, speech and language perception, suprasegmentals, fluency and prosody. She has guided 75 masters and 11 doctoral students for their Dissertations and Thesis. She has been a member of Board of Studies and Board of Examiners of several Universities in India.
She has published 135 scientific papers and 5 books in national and international journals. She had 7 extramural projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi; Department of Electronics; and Indian Council of Medical Research. She has also completed 15 projects funded by the AIISH Research Fund. She is a member of the Project Review and Steering Group on consortium Project “Development of Text to Speech systems in Indian Languages”, life member of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association, and Acoustic Society of India, Member, Task Force of Cognitive Science Initiative, DST among others. She is the Editorial Committee member of several Journals. She has headed the departments of Speech-Language Sciences, Special Education and Centre for Education and Rehabilitation through Distance Mode at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore. She has been the training coordinator, DHLS overall coordinator, Estate Officer, CPIO, Vice President, AIISH Gymkhana, and Chief Vigilance Officer at the institute.
Prof. Savithri has received the Young Scientist Project from the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India in the year 1989. She has been awarded Dr. N Rathna Oration during 2009 by the Indian Speech and Hearing Association, Dr. C V Raman’s award by the Acoustical Society of India, Visiting Fellow under UGC-ASHISS to CAS in Linguistics, Annamalai University, Dr. Raiz ahmed Oration Award and Sir. M. Visweswaraiah Award.
She had additional charge of Director from 2011 and assumed charge as Director, All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, Mysore on 15.1.2013.
